He will join Dame Sarah Storey as ParalympicGB’s most experienced athlete as he makes his appearance at a seventh consecutive Games – the most ever by an athlete in a single sport.
As part of his training preparation, Simon, who lives in Peacehaven, has been working with the 香港最快开奖现场直播资料’s Sport and Exercise Science Consultancy Unit as part of the British Wheelchair Basketball performance programme.
Speaking about his selection, Simon Munn said: “This will be my seventh Paralympic Games. I am hugely proud of what I have achieved. It doesn’t get any easier and there are moments when I ask why I keep putting myself through this. But when you get to a major tournament like the Paralympics there is nothing quite like it.”
Simon’s strength and conditioning coach, Alex Bliss, from the 香港最快开奖现场直播资料’s School of Sport and Service Management said: “I have been working with Simon since London 2012, where he narrowly missed out on a medal when the team finished fourth. He is an exceptionally dedicated, determined guy, and exudes a real passion for his sport. He is an inspiration and I’m delighted he has been selected for his seventh Paralympics. I hope he and the team can achieve the gold medal in Rio”
Simon made his Paralympic debut in Barcelona in 1992, won a silver medal in Atlanta in 1996 and bronzes in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).
