Peter, who qualified with a masters degree in 2008, is working as part of a team of British medics in Kathmandu, Nepal, providing medical aid to earthquake victims.
The UK medical team is helping restore vital services at a Kathmandu hospital following the damage wrought by the Nepalese earthquakes over the last month. Structural damage incurred by the earthquake meant parts of the hospital had to be closed down and patients with injuries deemed critical were moved to an underground car park. From here a team of British medics carried out the needs assessments of approximately 80 patients to identify those needing the most urgent care and those who could be matched with care offered by other relief agencies and families.
Peter’s involvement is through the UK's International Emergency Trauma Register which was sent to Nepal by the British government. The register comprises health professionals from across the UK health services who are available to assist with major international health crises within 24 hours.
